Ladder systems in short

Tactical Height Solutions installs and inspects fixed access ladders, roof ladder brackets and vertical fall-arrest systems on Sydney buildings, to AS 1657 and the AS/NZS 1891 series. Each system is inspected, tagged and recorded on a roof plan with photos, and existing ladders are checked for fixings, corrosion and compliance. Ladder inspections are included in our annual height safety inspection, and site inspections in Sydney are free.

Updated October 2026 by Naldo Neto, IRATA Level 3 and licensed painter.

Many roof falls happen getting on and off the roof, not while working on it. A loose portable ladder at the hatch, a fixed ladder with no fall protection or a corroded ladder bracket are common findings on Sydney strata and commercial buildings.

We install fixed access ladders, roof ladder brackets, anchors at the top of ladders and vertical fall-arrest systems, the rail or cable a climber clips onto. Existing ladders are inspected for fixings, corrosion and compliance with AS 1657, with a photo report and a quote for anything that needs work.

Ladders are usually part of a wider roof safety picture, so we look at anchors, static lines, walkways and guardrails on the same visit and put everything on one roof plan.

Questions about ladder systems

Does a fixed roof ladder need fall arrest?

It depends on the height of the climb and the ladder design under AS 1657. We check each ladder against the standard and tell you what, if anything, it needs.

Can a portable ladder be used to get onto the roof?

Sometimes, if it is secured and suitable for the task, but portable ladders are a common cause of falls. A fixed ladder, or a ladder bracket with an anchor, is safer for regular roof access.

How often are ladder systems inspected?

Fall-arrest systems should be inspected at least every 12 months. We include ladders and vertical lines in your annual height safety inspection.

Can you inspect a ladder system someone else installed?

Yes. We inspect existing systems, tag them if they pass and quote repairs if they do not.
